  • New Digital Camera! - Mafu (19/01/2003 10:00:19 PM)
    So you want a digital camera? But waiting to get something with a bit of resolution? 4 or 6 megapixel just doesn't cut it for you web photo album?

    Kodak are about to release a new FOURTEEN (14) thats right FOUR freakin TEEN megapixel beast! It uses CMOS technology for the sensor, and looks uber cool. Buy me one now.

    This isn't for the weak hearted - 14 mega pixel, 2000 x 3500 resolution, 35 meg TIF files...

    Roll me over and scratch my belly!

    The links:
    The news release via Digital Photo Review

    2,000 x 3,500 = 7,000,000. Where's the rest of the pixels?

    Reading the site:
    4,536 x 3,024 = 13,716,864.
    File size:
    - 41 MB full-resolution TIFF file;
    - 15 MB compressed

    I guess there is a lot you could do with 14MP. and maybe you would do something, at one stage, a couple times maybe. But I have covered number of megapixels elsewhere. So I could take 6 pics on my 256Meg card :P Depends what you want (vs what you NEED) in a camera.

    What really counts for me is how good are the optics and how far does the zoom go *BACK*. How many photos can I take while away before having to offload 'em.

    Oops... I stand corrected on the pixels! Looks like I wasn't paying enough attention while I was typing that one!

    But 14MP is a good thing - if (and thats a big if) you do want decent image quality and plan to do pro quality prints. For me, thats what I need - the average Joe is probably best with looking for other features that best suit their own needs.

    Oh, and its a SLR - which means uber image/lense quality! Also a must for me, given all the Nikon gear I already have!

    Whatever the case, its cool to see the new technology advancing....
